The Southern-Northern Highway: Montenegro

Type of Project :Reinforced retaining walls (RSWs)
Material: E’GRID60、E’GRID95、E’GRID125、E’GRID170
Date: 2018-2019
Description:
The Southern-Northern Expressway is the first highway in Montenegro, built by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and the China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The highway spans approximately 180 kilometers and navigates some of the most challenging landscapes in Montenegro. Notably, about 60% of the route consists of tunnels and bridges.
The project's engineering marvels include:
- 40 km of mountainous road featuring over 2 km of RSWs
- Geotechnical design adhering to European standards (EN)
- Comprehensive stability analyses for both external/internal structural integrity
- Precise settlement and lateral deformation calculations
BOSTD provided full life cycle services for the RSWs segments, including:
-Integrated product design by using BBA-certified E'BLOCK modular system
-Turnkey supply of geosynthetic materials
-On-site technical supervision
Key project innovations:
- Total of 9 RSWs with wall slope of 86°
- Tiered RSWs design with 1.25m wide platforms in every 6.6m of elevation
- Some RSWs can reach as high as 30 meters, first to exceed Europe benchmark
-E'GRID geogrids from BOSTD is the only Chinese-made product approved to use in all construction materials for this project.
Location:Montenegro
