ADM Certification Breakthrough in China-UAE Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Park

Material:Bi-Axial Geogrids
Date:Starting 2018
Location:Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD)
Description:
The China-UAE Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Park is located in the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), next to Khalifa Port. The park will cover a total area of 12.2 square kilometers, with Phase I covering 2.2 square kilometers and Phase II covering 10 square kilometers. This project aims to support the Belt and Road Initiative, as agreed by Chinese and UAE leaders.
The access roads for this project must use geogrids. Abu Dhabi requires that all construction designs use products certified by the Abu Dhabi Municipal Certification (ADM). This means that any geogrids included in the designs must be on the ADM shortlist. During the design approval process, the ADM raised concerns and asked Jiangsu International Construction & Engineering Group (JIPEC) to provide calculation documents that show the geogrids meet ADM specifications. Among the four suppliers on the ADM shortlist, BOSTD is the only Chinese company. However, only JIPEC's EGRID product and one European product provided the necessary calculation documents. BOSTD has technical advantages, having gained ADM certification after six years in the UAE market and previous experience with Abu Dhabi projects. JIPEC engineers argued in client meetings that both EGRID and the European product calculations should be accepted to speed up approval and to challenge the European monopoly. At the same time, JIPEC arranged site visits to other UAE projects using EGRID to show stakeholders the product's quality, despite risks from the pandemic. In the end, EGRID successfully gained approval for supply.
